Summary Description: Warner Pacific University is seeking a dynamic and highly entrepreneurial leader to be the next Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations. Reporting to the President and working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Vice President will strengthen the culture of philanthropy through the use of leading-edge practices. Along with the President, this role will be charged with rebuilding Warner Pacific's advancement and external relations footprint in alignment with its minority-serving mission and desire to move into civic and corporate spaces.-- The Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive institutional advancement programs and recruiting and developing talented team members focused toward the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes. The advancement function includes responsibility for the annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and gift planning, endowment, capital campaigns, and alumni and constituent relations efforts, stewardship and advancement services. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position.

Warner Pacific is a Christ-centered, urban liberal arts university in Portland, Oregon with approximately 900 students. The university's main campus occupies 15 acres on the south slope of Mt. Tabor at the intersection of Southeast 68 th --Avenue and Division Street. Its three Professional and Graduate Studies Program sites are located 30 blocks east of the main campus in Portland; in Vancouver, Washington; and in Longview, Washington. The University has approximately 10,000 alumni and maintains a comprehensive database of its alumni and friends of the university in business and industry. Desired Skills:

  • The University is seeking a leader who is passionate about Warner Pacific University's mission to be a Christ-centered, urban, diverse, minority-serving, Hispanic-serving, liberal arts university. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial, creative, savvy with a breadth of experience in advancement, including annual fund, capital projects, and planned giving.--
  • The Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations must serve as a hands-on senior fund development executive with demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment. The Vice President serves in a critical role within the executive leadership team at Warner Pacific University (WPU). The Vice President reports directly to the President, is a member of the executive leadership team, and serves on or leads various other University committees or councils.--
  • The Vice President must effectively collaborate with other senior administrators and with the faculty to execute advancement goals, manage University resources effectively, build WPU's advancement program and position the institution for the future. The Vice President will be the primary fundraiser and manager for Warner Pacific University's development and fund-raising campaigns.
  • The successful candidate is expected to prepare and implement a comprehensive Annual Development Plan; provide direct engagement, as well as leadership and direction to solicit and secure funds and resources that enable the University to accomplish its mission and strategic goals; increase donor support by identifying, cultivating and soliciting existing and new major donors as well as capital, annual and endowment gifts.--
  • The Vice President works collaboratively with the President, senior staff, faculty and Athletic Director on donor prospect development for major gift solicitation and oversees the planning, coordination and execution of special events.
  • The Vice President will also provide the leadership to develop a campus-wide culture and climate of philanthropy and work with the campus community to address the University's funding needs and opportunities.
  • The Vice President is the senior officer who collaborates with the marketing team to ensure an advancement program that focuses on consistent messages and identity, publications and online communication to enhance the University's image for fundraising. Essential Functions: The Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations reports to the President and supports the mission of the university by overseeing fund-raising; university relations; alumni, church and parent relations; and external relations. As a member of the executive management team, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations participates in setting broad organizational goals, objectives and policies. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement and External Relations is:--
    • Responsible to the President for all University-wide fund-raising and external relations matters.
    • Responsible for establishing and maintaining University-wide fund raising objectives, policies, programs, and practices which ensure the revenue requirements are met for the University.
    • Responsible for short- and long-term fund-raising planning, reporting, internal control, and compliance.
    • Responsible for achieving annual giving, planned giving, and capital projects fundraising goals.
    • Responsible to work with the President to identify major donor prospects and to achieve fund raising goals.
    • Responsible to oversee and approve all fund-raising activities on the campus.
    • Responsible to set annual grant submission goals and oversee grant writing.
    • Responsible to oversee alumni, parent and church relations function in order to enhance constituent relations and build support for the university.
    • Co-staff the Trustees' Advancement and Enrollment Committee with the Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing.
    • Be present in the office during regular office hours and attend staff and department meetings as required.
    • Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
    • Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.
    • Demonstrate commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding to the mission of the University and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.
    • Perform other duties as assigned. --Strategic Goals Related to Position:
      • Improving and maintaining the University's fund-raising function and programs.
      • Overseeing an effective, transparent and inclusive fund-raising process
      • Achieving annual giving goals to support the ongoing operation of the institution
      • Supporting campus-wide initiatives and programs
      • Achieving fundraising goals to support capital development to fulfill the campus master plan
      • Raising public awareness of the University's distinctives and building the reputation of the institution on the local, regional and national stage. Minimum Qualifications:--
        • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five to seven years' experience in advancement/fund-raising are required.
        • The successful candidate will be a senior officer with inspirational leadership qualities, experience and thorough knowledge of the role of institutional advancement in supporting the complex mission of a Christ-centered urban liberal arts university. The candidate will have a record of achievement in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations.
        • The successful candidate should demonstrate experience with all phases of development including the development of a strategic plan for advancement and the execution of successful advancement campaigns in coordination with senior staff and other members of the university community.
        • The Vice President must have an understanding of development-specific technology, the ability to assess and improve systems and processes to further advancement goals, interpersonal and communication skills to enable her/him to strengthen and lead the alumni and advancement programs to new levels of success at Warner Pacific University, and the skills to conceptualize and execute a communications campaign that reflects the institution's history, traditions and distinctiveness and which inspires and engages its constituencies.
        • The successful candidate should be a strong communicator capable of expressing ideas in a clear and concise manner. It is essential that the candidate's Christian faith is integrated in all that s/he does and that her/his personal ethics are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Warner Pacific University.
        • The successful candidate should have experience working with diverse populations.
