Responsible for the custody and care ofoffenders; maintaining order and discipline among offenders;scheduling; training; and supervising staff in compliance withManagement & Training Corporation (MTC) and TexasDepartment of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.Essential Functions:1. Serve as shift supervisor.Conduct daily shift briefings to provide updated information andissuance of chemical agents.2. Maintain daily shiftroster to ensure required posts are filled; address staffingshortages and post vacancies.3. Supervise, protect,instruct, train, counsel and evaluate assigned employees andoffenders; schedule employees' and offenders'work and off-duty time; assist in formulating security and workprocedures.4. Supervise and direct searches forcontraband and provide security.5. Supervise andprovide custody and security of offenders including observation ofoffenders and offenders assigned to work duty, which includes longperiods of sitting and standing.6. Perform specificsecurity functions including "pat" and"strip" searches, by squatting and bending toperform such functions.7. Provide staff training,evaluates staff performance, investigate staff misconduct andimplement organizational and personnel changes as approved by thewarden and coordinated with the human resources manager prior toimplementation.8. Participate in the interview andselection process of new employees, including makingrecommendations for new hires.9. Responds toemergencies including climbing stairs, steps, and ladders whilesearching for escaped offenders, hearing calls for and calling forhelp, giving first aid at the emergency site, carrying an injuredor unconscious offender or employee various distances to safety upor down stairs, steps, and ladders; and use force and deadly forceto include the use of chemical agents and firearms to controloffenders.10. Read, review and properly applyinformation found in offender records which is related to theoffenders' health and safety and to the security of thefacility. Provide appropriate information as needed to otherpersonnel and maintain confidentiality.11. Supervisethe preparation and maintenance of records, forms andreports.12. Prepare and complete required incidentreports and logs in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner.13. Oversee the count process and ensure accurate facilitycount at designated time intervals.14. Authorize andoversee planned use of force events; complete all notifications andreports as required.15. Complete rounds of all areas ofthe facility and be accessible to staff where needed.16. Conduct minor disciplinary hearings.17. Act asfamily liaison officer for visitation.18. Regular andpredictable attendance is required.19. Promote thedevelopment of positive social skills through modeling appropriatebehaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors areobserved; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skillsprocedures and intervention techniques.20. Maintainaccountability of staff, offenders and property; adhere to safetypractices.It is expected that the incumbentshall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilitiesas determined by management.Education andExperience Requirements:Graduation from an accreditedsenior high school or equivalent or GED. Three (3) years full-time,wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience toinclude one (1) year in the supervision of employees. OperationalReview Sergeant or Security Threat Group Sergeant experience may besubstituted for one (1) year of the required supervisoryexperience. Thirty (30) semester hours with a minimum of six (6)semester hours in Criminal Justice from a college or universityaccredited by an organization recognized by the Council for HigherEducation Accreditation (CHEA) or United States Department ofEducation (USDE) may be substituted for one (1) year of therequired non-supervisory experience. Valid driver'slicense in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving recordrequired, unless waived by management.PostHire Requirements:Must successfully complete annualin-service training requirements to include physical agilitytesting and pass an annual background check, which must be approvedby TDCJ.#ZR #Talent
