Job DescriptionDescription The Network Administrator is
responsible for participating in voice and data, network
installation repair and upgrade. This includes all
telecommunications systems including the teleconferencing, video
and satellite communications. The Network Administrator also plans,
evaluates, installs, configures, upgrades, and performs maintenance
procedures on telecommunications hardware, cabling, operating
systems, and infrastructure. Remaining current on developments in
telecommunications and networking technology is a key element of
this position. The Network Administrator has technical knowledge
and experience in routers, bridges, IP addressing, switches, hubs,
other network devices, protocols, sniffers and all existing network
architectures (Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, ATM, etc). In addition,
strong analytical and problem solving skills are critical to
troubleshooting networking issues and analysis of system and
network performance. Responsibility for the resolution of problems
and the implementation of new functionality for the logical network
topology is an important part of this position. The Network
Administrator is responsible for delivering high quality
cost-effective solutions to all levels of users. This includes
support for both the technology and processes. The Network
Administrator is also responsible for supporting the business goals
and objectives for the Department, the Information Services
Organization, and the organization as a whole. Actively participate
in the planning, operations and maintenance of LAN, WAN data
networking facilities. Demonstrate strong analytical and problem
solving skills. Troubleshoot systems and networking problems.
Possess experience in routers, bridges, switches, hubs, IP
addressing, network protocols, and other network devices, including
implementation and support. Experience with all existing network
architectures -- Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, ATM, etc... including
protocols and sniffers. Evaluate new technologies. Conduct research
and development in networking and telecommunications advances.
Review project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding
limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project. Participate
in activities related to the testing of telecommunications and
networking upgrades and enhancements. Demonstrate strong
communication and human relationship skills. Document and update
telecommunications and networking technical standards and
procedures. Contact vendors regarding service issues to receive
support information or assistance as instructed by supervisor.
Produce and maintain technical documentation on the assigned
systems. Produce required department reporting associated with
projects and problems assigned, which includes current status and
problem documentation summary within the problem management system.
With supervision, define boundaries, set priorities, plan and
manage multiple projects. With guidance develop detailed project
schedules for all assigned projects, mapping dates and resources to
tasks. Monitor progress and resolve approved deviations from plan.
Maintain and demonstrate good teamwork on assigned projects through
actions and job performance. Provide effective Customer Service by
being courteous, polite and friendly toward others at all times.
Acknowledge customers immediately in order to determine need and
help the customer resolve issue or request. Participate in
departmental programs that promote and deliver exceptional customer
service. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by
the Network Administrator Supervisor. Requirements
Education/Skills: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering
or Math, preferred, or equivalent experience (2 years). Network
management formal training preferred. Working knowledge of
mainframe, midrange, IP addressing, network protocols, UNIX,
network design, telecommunications strategy, environments,
operating systems, and equipment. Unix programming experience.

Detail oriented. Interpersonal skills Experience Two years
experience in complex corporate WAN telecommunications
environments. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Microsoft
Certification in Networking Essentials and Windows NT Server 4.0
Core Technologies or NetWare Certification (Certified NetWare
