Job Description:

Primary Purpose / Function:

Work safely and in accordance with the Company Safety philosophy and programs. Provide specialist level support in the repair, maintenance, modification and installation of mechanical equipment and devices. Manage small projects, coordinate installations and down day work assignments and carry out initiatives in support of the Mill objectives. Collaborate with team members to ensure tasks are completed in a safe, timely and cost efficient manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Two years of technical school in a field(s) directly related to the work.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups.

Ability to use personal computer and software.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in recordkeeping and maintaining hard copy and electronic documents for record retention.

Experience:

Three to five years working in a support function in a manufacturing environment.

Experience in Forest Product Industry a plus.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Provide crafts specialist support to Team Members to help achieve the business plan.

Exhibit and live the Safety Value; lead safety by personal example; Comply with Safety rules, regulations, policies and practices for Safety.

Maintain hard copy files and electronic records of items required by record retention policy.

Write purchase requisitions and work orders using CMMS.

Attend and complete required training.

Pipe and plumb hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Repair, install, modify, replace and align machinery.

Performs precision measurements by use of various measurement devices such as calipers, dial indicators and micrometers.

Reads and interprets blue prints and layout work.

Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and components.

Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.

Analyze breakdowns of equipment and plans details of working approach to determine material and/or replacement needs and follows a practical approach to effect repairs.

Answer trouble calls, performs scheduled and non-scheduled inspections, adjustments, repairs, etc., in accordance with diagram or drawing specifications, manuals or other instructions.

Analyze all types of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, diagrams or drawings as required to install, repair, adjust, calibrate, construct, modify or service all types of mechanical system and devices.

Analyze comprehensive schematics, sketches, and drawings related to the maintenance and repair of all types of mechanical systems and devices.

Properly containerizes, labels, and transports hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

Other duties as may be assigned or required to achieve business goals and objectives.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Operation of shop equipment such as cranes, burden carriers, fork trucks, hand tools, welding and cutting equipment, sheet metal fabrication equipment, hand tools, lathes, welders, grinders, drills, drill presses, heavy equipment, etc. is required.

Mental Demands:

Reading; basic mathematical computations; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).

Physical Demands:

Work from heights; sit; unassisted entry and exit of confined spaces; noise requiring the use of hearing protection; stand and move unassisted throughout the mill;; climb stairs; walk; wearing appropriate PPE including respirator; Hold objects, grip objects; use of hands in sometimes repetitive motions; bend, stoop, twist, kneel, lay prone, reach, pull, pull, lift above head, reach above head, stooping, bending, lifting/transport of up to 50 lbs and the ability to work with frequent interruptions.

Working Hours:

Incumbent is subject to be assigned rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays as well as scheduled shifts that may be extended up to 16 hours in duration.

Schedules are subject to change with short notice depending upon business needs.

Working Environment:

85% mill or outdoor environment which may include heat, cold, rain, snow, wind; 15% office /shop environment.
