Job purpose

In general, the Area Manager is responsible for one of two manufacturing process groups (Woodyard/Heat & Energy or Forming/Pressing/Finishing) and ensuring those production processes are as efficient as possible. The Area Manager will work with management and leaders of shift-assigned employees and other contracted resources in the manufacturing of OSB to get the maximum yield and efficiency from our equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Area Manager is responsible for a complete manufacturing process across multiple production teams, ensuring processes are as efficient as possible. The Area Manager will drive maximum yield and efficiency from our production teams and equipment. The Area Manager is responsible for improving margin, quality, and quantity. This position acts as a process expert to aide training employees to improve their skill sets. The Area Manager will identify and drive improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions as needed.

Area Manager is responsible for evaluation of data leading to achieving production targets with improved margin and efficiency. To that end, these responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Monitoring production and quality control systems, analyze production, quality control, or other operational reports to detect production problems and opportunities * Determining how systems should work from OEM and other MOC documents and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect production outcome * Reviewing processing schedules or production orders and make recommendations concerning manufacturing requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering headcount and budgetary limitations and time constraints * Mentoring assigned personnel and promote efficiency and build skills * Recommending process improvements in the work area to gain efficiencies * Communicating effectively with all team members and ensure miscommunications are minimized * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Production Manager

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this role. These are the qualifications that are necessary for someone to be considered for the position. A reasonable accommodation may be allowed for some aspects of the role as determined by Human Resources.

Minimum qualifications include:

* Expert level knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology of OSB manufacturing equipment with a strong desire for continuous improvement * Expert level knowledge of the principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment involved in the processes of making OSB * Expert level knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of OSB * Eligible to legally work in the United States * BS or BA diploma or equivalent experience * Ability to work as part of a team and deliver value to the team

Specialized knowledge or skills needed:

* Expert level understand of our manufacturing equipment * Superior knowledge of continuous improvement to add efficiency and margin improvement * Understanding of how training can produce a gain efficiency and increase production levels * Mentoring, coaching and leading others * Directing others to successful completion of tasks * Listen for understanding skills * People and team building skills * Problem solving and decision making skills * Leading and setting the example with safety * Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintain them over time * Analyze data to recommend informed operational decisions

Working conditions

Role requires a person to work in working conditions such as heat, cold, snow, rain, ice, frost, humidity, severe storms and so forth. Special working conditions may include regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, working as a team regardless of challenge, and so forth. Exposure to noise, dirt, grease, water and sawdust is common.

Physical requirements

Physical ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, which includes climbing stairs, navigating catwalks, working at heights up to 30 feet above the ground, lifting up to 50 pounds (from floor to shoulder height), stooping, and bending, carrying up to 30 pounds at least 40 feet.

Direct reports

This position has a few direct and many indirect reports. Demonstrated leadership is a key requirement for success in this role.
