Work involves planning, coordinating andimplementing substance abuse counseling activities. She/he willcoordinate with other departments to ensure the maximum utilizationof resources available for chemical dependency treatment andrehabilitation in compliance with Management & TrainingCorporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ)directives.Essentialfunctions:Provides substanceabuse counseling and recovery skills training; participates inoffender orientation, educational and individual and processcounseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines,policies, and procedures.Interviews, screens, and evaluates offenders forpotential program participation.Provides a comprehensive evaluation from a battery ofvalid measurement tools to assess the recovery needs and there-offense risk of DWI/SAFPF/ISFoffenders.Participates in theIndividual Treatment Plan based on the severity and characteristicsof the offender as determined by the comprehensive assessment,review of collateral information, and the Clinicalinterview.Maintains offenderrecords and other records regarding services provided to includeworkload statistics; and compiles data and submits reports andrelated documentation as appropriate.Provides liaison to participants of training programs,workshops, and seminars.Implements follow-up and after care plans for offendersthat participate in the program prior to their release; anddisseminates information on community resources for offenderplacement in follow-up treatment.At the conclusion of the program, an IndividualProgress Summary will be developed for each offender on caseload toreflect the evaluation results together with comments about theoffender's level of participation and quality of completion in theDWI/SAFPF/ISF programs.Submit copy of theIndividual Progress Summary to the Parole Division to be includedin the Parole Case Summary.Promote thedevelopment and positive social skills through modeling appropriatebehaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors areobserved. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skillsprocedures and interventiontechniques.Maintain accountability of staff,offenders and property. Adhere to safetypractices.It is expected thatthe incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/hercapabilities as determined bymanagement.Positionrequirements:Graduation from anaccredited senior high school, GED, orequivalent. - -Must have a letter ofregistration as a -Licensed Chemical Dependency -CounselorIntern (LCDC-I orCI) from the Texas Department of StateHealth Services or current certification as Certified CriminalJustice Addictions Professional Applicant(CCJP-A) as approved by the TexasCertification Board of AddictionProfessionals.Selected applicants must obtainthe Licensed Clinical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license or theCertified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) certification withinfive years from the date of their registration as a CounselorIntern or CCJP-A.Must sign a CredentialContingency Agreement that will remain in effect only until theinitially established expiration date. Failure to comply with thiscontingency statement will result in separation from employment.Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extended or renewedas a result of an employee's separation from employment oracceptance of another position.Valid driver'slicense in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving recordrequired, unless waived bymanagement.Post hirerequirements: Must successfully complete annual in-servicetraining requirements and pass an annual background check, both ofwhich must be approved by Texas Department of CriminalJustice. Must maintain valid Counselor Intern status(CI), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license orCertified Criminal Justice Professional Applicant(CCJP-A) certification forcontinued employment inposition.Why: Help individualsbreak the cycle.
