The Project Advisor provides academic advising, college and career counseling, study skills workshops, and oversees tutoring at specific target high schools to ensure program participants are served and enroll in institutions of post-secondary education. Upward Bound is grant funded through the U.S. Department of Education. This position is contingent on the renewal of grant fundsResponsibilities and Duties

• This position assist in the recruiting and the selection of new Upward Bound participants. Also responsible for entering and maintaining data base used by Upward Bound program. Other responsibilities include; grade checks on participants, planning events, accompanying Upward Bound students to visit four-year universities, assistance with completing scholarship applications, college admission applications, financial aid forms, planning and helping lead an annual six-week intensive Summer Academic Program for Upward Bound participants, and assisting in planning cultural activities. This position will also assist in maintaining accurate student records.Qualifications and Skills
  • --- Bachelor's degree in related field(s) (education, psychology, sociology) --- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of the population served. --- Valid Texas driver's license --- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van --- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills --- Have outstanding computer skills --- Occasional extended work hours to include nights and weekends as required --- Have good basic reading, math, and English skills --- Knowledge of Educational Grants and grant writing experience is preferred --- Familiar with data base entry.Benefits and Perks

An excellent retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System.Full Time employees have free use of the college's recreational/fitness facilities.Tuition scholarships are -for the employee and dependent children. - The twelve month salary range is $35,568 - $36,000 and will commensurate with experience and education.This is a grant funded position.Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws. For information on the WEP and the GPO, visit the Social Security Administration's website at .Positions will remain open until filled. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check. Federal law prohibits the employment of unauthorized aliens. All persons hired must submit satisfactory proof of employment authorization and identity within three (3) days of being hired. Failure to submit proof within the required time shall result in immediate employment termination. All position appointments are subject to approval by the college's Board of Trustees.
